Dead Island 2 does have some serious technical problems, but they are easily circumvented most of the time.

This is rather unfortunate for hardcore Dead Island 2 fans who pre-ordered the Gold, Deluxe, or Hell-A versions of the game, but the good news is that the launch seems to be going relatively well otherwise. No reason for the extended wait has been given at the time of this writing, but social media reactions make it clear that fans are upset about the development. It's safe to say that the hardcore fans that pre-ordered the more expensive versions of Dead Island 2 will have likely played through the entire thing by that point, making these cosmetic pre-order bonus items effectively worthless for many. While these items were not technically said to be coming on launch day, they were expected to be available "soon after release." The official Twitter account has since said that the team is "aiming" to deliver the character packs this summer, meaning fans will likely have to wait months to get the items.

Character Pack 2, aka Cyber Slayer Amy, came with the Neurunner skin and the Casmir & Julienne sword weapons.

Character Pack 1, aka Silver Star Jacob, gives Jacob the flashy Rodeo Sunset skin and The Devil's Horseshoes weapons. Those pre-ordering the Gold, Deluxe, or Hell-A Editions of Dead Island 2 expected to receive special character pack bonuses for the playable characters Amy and Jacob. Those pre-ordering the more expensive Gold, Deluxe, or Hell-A Editions of Dead Island 2 in particular were promised special items to download "soon after release." Like most big budget games nowadays, Dead Island 2 promised consumers special bonuses if they pre-ordered the game. Some Dead Island 2 pre-order bonus character packs aren't going to be released until some point later this summer.
